Four things we’d check before ordering
- Your essential apps: make sure the exact device and UK region support the services you rely on. Similar-looking products can still differ.
- Your TV and audio setup: match the device to the screen and sound system you actually own. A Dolby logo on a spec sheet does not guarantee every app or subscription tier will use it.
- Your network: if Wi-Fi is unreliable near the TV, look at devices with built-in Ethernet. Extra storage won’t fix a weak wireless signal.
- Your storage needs: storage holds apps and their data; RAM is working memory. Our 8GB, 16GB and 32GB guide explains the difference.
Can one streaming device give me every service?
Don’t assume it will. App availability, subscriptions and live-TV features vary by device. Start with the services you can’t do without and check those first.
Does every streaming device support Freely?
No. Use Freely’s official device directory to check supported hardware. Having catch-up apps is not the same as having Freely built in.
Should I replace a smart TV that still works?
Not necessarily. If the picture is still good and the TV has a suitable HDMI input, adding a streaming stick or box may be all you need. See our older-TV upgrade guide.
