The Manhattan Aero is not trying to be another generic Android box. Its reason to exist is much more UK-specific: it brings Freely live television and catch-up services to an existing TV using broadband, with no aerial or satellite dish required.

The key advantage: proper UK live TV over broadband
Aero receives Freely through your internet connection. Manhattan says you need no aerial or dish: connect the box to the television by HDMI, then connect it to the internet over Wi-Fi or Ethernet. That makes it particularly useful for bedrooms, rented homes and rooms where an aerial socket is inconvenient or unavailable.
It is also a conventional streaming box
TiVo OS provides access to mainstream services alongside Freely. Manhattan currently highlights services including Netflix, Disney+, Prime Video and YouTube, plus TiVo+ content. Its support pages also confirm 4K playback support in several major apps where the programme and subscription support it.
The important limitations
- No Dolby Vision: Aero supports HDR10 and HDR10+, but Manhattan explicitly says Dolby Vision is not supported.
- Not designed for sideloading: Manhattan describes TiVo OS as a curated platform rather than an Android-style install-anything environment.
- No Freely recording: streamed Freely channels cannot be recorded; this is a platform limitation, not unique to Aero.
- Broadband matters: Manhattan recommends 10Mbps or more for normal use and notes that 4K streams can need around 25Mbps of headroom.
Who should choose Aero?
Aero makes most sense if UK live TV is central to your setup and you want it over broadband without buying a new television. If your priority is Google Play, broad app installation or a large Android-style app library, a Google TV device is a better fit.
