In short: Amazon has launched a new Fire TV Stick 4K (3rd Generation) for 2026. It runs Vega OS, supports 4K at up to 60fps, Wi-Fi 6 and HDR10+, and can be powered directly from a compatible TV USB port. It also ships with Amazon’s redesigned Fire TV Remote. The biggest buyer trade-off is that this is a Vega OS model rather than an Android-based Fire OS stick, while the higher-end Fire TV Stick 4K Max offers Dolby Vision, more storage and Wi-Fi 6E. Amazon also lists Dolby Atmos pass-through on the new 2026 4K stick for compatible setups.
The new model started shipping in the UK on 30 September 2026. Amazon positions it as the middle option in a simplified three-stick range: Fire TV Stick HD, Fire TV Stick 4K and Fire TV Stick 4K Max.

What changed on the new Fire TV Stick 4K?
The biggest change is not simply extra speed. The 2026 Fire TV Stick 4K joins Amazon’s move to Vega OS. That means buyers should not assume that older Fire OS setup guides, Android APK workflows or sideloading instructions apply to this model.
If that software difference matters to you, read our Vega OS vs Fire OS guide before choosing a stick.
Amazon has also made the hardware slimmer and added Direct Power, allowing the stick to draw power from a compatible TV USB port instead of always needing a separate wall adapter. That can make the installation cleaner, particularly on wall-mounted TVs or travel setups.
How fast is it?
Amazon says the new Fire TV Stick 4K turns on faster, launches apps more than 35% faster and starts content nearly 20% faster than a similarly priced 4K stick from another leading brand in its testing. Amazon also says the overall journey from power-on to streaming was around 20–40% faster in its comparison.
Those figures come from Amazon’s own testing, so they should be treated as manufacturer claims rather than independent ViewHarbour benchmarks. We will keep the distinction clear until we have hands-on test data.
What is missing compared with Fire TV Stick 4K Max?
Amazon is keeping the Fire TV Stick 4K Max as the premium stick in the range. Amazon specifically highlights the Max for buyers who want higher performance, more storage, Wi-Fi 6E and Dolby Vision. Both models have Dolby Atmos pass-through listed, although supported formats and services depend on the setup.
That matters because the new standard Fire TV Stick 4K is designed as the middle-ground option rather than a replacement for everything the Max offers.
If you are deciding between the new model and an existing Max, our Fire TV Stick 4K Max review explains the Max hardware and where its extra features can matter.
Does the new Fire TV Stick 4K support sideloading?
Do not buy this model assuming it behaves like an older Android-based Fire OS stick. Vega OS does not provide the familiar consumer workflow for installing arbitrary Android APK files through the traditional Fire TV sideloading process.
Amazon does provide developer tools for Vega applications, but that is different from consumer Android APK compatibility. Our full Vega OS vs Fire OS explainer covers the distinction in more detail.
What apps are available on Vega OS?
Amazon says it has added more than 2,000 apps since launching its first Vega-based Fire TV product, with services including Spotify, Xbox and VLC joining mainstream streaming apps such as Netflix, Disney+, YouTube and Prime Video.
App availability can still change, so if one particular service is essential to you, check compatibility for this exact Fire TV generation before buying rather than assuming an app available on Fire OS is automatically available on Vega.
The redesigned Fire TV Remote
The new remote has a flatter top, a curved weighted lower section and more distinct button shapes intended to make the main controls easier to find by touch. The Home button now has a different metal surface, while a customisable star button can open a favourite app or selected accessibility/settings functions.
Amazon says the new Fire TV Remote works with Fire TV streaming players launched from 2019 onward. A separate premium Fire TV Remote Plus with backlit buttons and Find My Remote is due in early 2027.
UK price and availability
The Fire TV Stick 4K (3rd Generation) began shipping in the UK on 30 September 2026. The UK list price at launch is £69.99.
Amazon pricing changes frequently around sales, so treat £69.99 as the launch/list price rather than a promise of the price you will see today. ViewHarbour will continue to compare current buying options and the rest of the Fire TV range.
Who is the new Fire TV Stick 4K for?
The new model makes most sense for a buyer who wants a current 4K Fire TV stick, Wi-Fi 6, a cleaner USB-powered setup and mainstream app support without stepping up to the Max.
The Fire TV Stick 4K Max remains the more relevant comparison if Dolby Vision, more storage, Wi-Fi 6E or the older Android-based Fire OS environment matters to you.

Our take
The 2026 Fire TV Stick 4K is a more substantial change than its familiar name suggests. Direct USB power, Wi-Fi 6 and Amazon’s claimed speed improvements make the hardware more convenient, but the move to Vega OS changes the software trade-off for anyone who valued the Android flexibility of older Fire TV Sticks.
For mainstream streaming, it fills the middle of Amazon’s simplified range. For buyers who care about Dolby Vision, extra storage, Wi-Fi 6E or Fire OS flexibility, the 4K Max remains an important comparison rather than an automatic upsell.
