UPDATED AUGUST 2026 · RESEARCHED COMPARISON
Both devices give you Google TV and 32GB storage, but they target different buyers. Google’s Streamer is the premium option with more memory, built-in Ethernet and smart-home features. Xiaomi’s box is the simpler value play with a full-size USB port and Wi-Fi 6.

Where Google earns the premium
The 4GB RAM figure is the biggest hardware difference. It gives Google twice Xiaomi’s memory allocation, which should provide more headroom for the interface and app switching. Google also builds in 1Gbps Ethernet, so wired networking does not require an extra adapter.
Matter support and a Thread border router add value if the streamer will also sit at the centre of a Google Home setup. If you do not care about those features, they should not persuade you to overspend.
Where Xiaomi makes more sense
Xiaomi still gives you the same nominal 32GB storage, 4K/60 support, Dolby Vision and HDR10+, and it uses Wi-Fi 6. The full-size USB 2.0 port is also convenient for buyers who want a familiar physical connection without building around USB-C.

Which should you choose?
Choose Google TV Streamer if 4GB RAM, built-in Gigabit Ethernet and smart-home integration are features you will actually use.
Choose Xiaomi TV Box S (3rd Gen) if you mainly want Google TV, 32GB storage and 4K HDR at a more value-focused position.
If neither is an obvious fit, compare them with Fire TV, Roku or Apple TV on the Compare Streaming Devices page or browse the wider Best Streaming Devices shortlist.
