OUR TAKE

Compact 4K Google TV streaming with Netflix 4K, Chromecast and AV1 support where 8GB storage is sufficient.

Here's the case for it, along with the things we'd check before buying.

What makes it worth a look

  • Google TV keeps the platform familiar and app-focused

What to check first

  • Only 8GB storage, no built-in Ethernet, and Micro-USB power.
  • 8GB storage can become restrictive once apps and updates accumulate
  • No built-in Ethernet port, so wired networking needs another route
  • No Dolby Vision support

MECOOL KD3 at a glance

The MECOOL KD3 is a compact 4K Google TV streaming stick for buyers who want Google Play, Chromecast and voice control without using a larger TV box. Its core hardware is built around the Amlogic S905Y4 family with a quad-core Cortex-A35 CPU and Mali-G31 MP2 graphics, paired with 2GB LPDDR4 memory and 8GB eMMC storage.

  • Google TV based on Android TV 11
  • Up to 4K UHD output at 60fps
  • Amlogic S905Y4-family processor
  • 2GB LPDDR4 RAM and 8GB eMMC storage
  • Dual-band Wi-Fi 5 (2T2R) and Bluetooth 5.0
  • AV1, VP9, H.265/HEVC and H.264 decoding
  • Netflix-certified 4K streaming and Prime Video support
  • Chromecast built-in and Google Assistant
  • HDR10 and HLG
  • Dolby Audio
  • HDMI 2.1 output and Micro-USB power

Google TV, apps and streaming services

The main reason to consider the KD3 is its Google TV platform. That gives it access to Google Play, Chromecast built-in and Google Assistant, while MECOOL also documents Netflix 4K certification and Prime Video support. App availability can change by service and region, so UK buyers should still check any must-have app before ordering.

If the platform matters more than the individual hardware, our Google TV vs Fire TV UK guide explains the broader differences. You can also use the ViewHarbour Device Finder to rank current devices around your preferred ecosystem, format, storage and connectivity.

Picture and audio support

MECOOL specifies 4K output at up to 60fps, AV1 decoding and HDR10/HLG processing. Dolby Audio is listed in MECOOL’s current material. Dolby Vision is not part of the published KD3 HDR specification, so ViewHarbour does not list it as supported. Dolby Atmos is left unknown because published sources conflict and MECOOL’s own current comparison material only states Dolby Audio.

Storage, Wi-Fi and everyday limitations

The KD3’s biggest hardware limitation is its 8GB storage. That is enough for a relatively light app library, but it gives less headroom than 16GB or 32GB alternatives once the operating system, updates and cached data are taken into account. Our 8GB vs 16GB vs 32GB streaming storage guide explains why that matters.

Networking is wireless: the stick supports dual-band Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.0, with no built-in Ethernet port. Buyers who specifically need wired networking should look at a box rather than this stick. Power is supplied over Micro-USB.

How the MECOOL KD3 compares with other compact streamers

The closest ViewHarbour alternatives depend on what you value. The Xiaomi TV Stick 4K (2nd Gen) is another compact Google TV option with 2GB RAM and 8GB storage, but adds Wi-Fi 6 and Dolby Vision. The STRONG LEAP NOVA UK is a more storage-focused Google TV stick with 32GB, while the Dcolor GD1 is a certified Android TV alternative with 16GB storage.

For a broader shortlist, see our Best Streaming Sticks UK 2026 guide. If you already have two models in mind, the ViewHarbour comparison tool lets you put their main catalogue specifications side by side.

Android 14 update status

MECOOL’s published KD3 specification is based on Google TV running on Android TV 11. World of Satellite currently reports that an Android 14 OTA update is being rolled out in phases. Because an OTA rollout does not guarantee that every unit ships with the same software version, ViewHarbour lists Android TV 11 as the documented base and treats Android 14 as an update rollout rather than the guaranteed factory OS.

UK availability and where to buy

we currently has an exact UK retailer route to World of Satellite. The site also provides an eBay UK affiliate search route for current marketplace listings. Prices and stock are deliberately not hard-coded on this page unless they have a fresh verified timestamp, so check the retailer page for the current amount, seller, warranty and delivery details.

Affiliate relationships do not change ViewHarbour’s device rankings or Finder scores. See the Where to Buy page for the current retailer options across the full catalogue.

Our take

On specification, the MECOOL KD3 is most relevant to buyers who want a small Google TV stick with certified Netflix 4K, Chromecast and AV1 support and who are comfortable with 8GB storage and Wi-Fi-only networking. Buyers who want more storage, Wi-Fi 6 or Dolby Vision have stronger alternatives in the current catalogue, but the KD3 remains a useful compact Google TV option when its UK price is competitive.
