For someone who already uses an iPhone, AirPods or Apple smart-home features, those connections can be more useful than an extra port on a rival box.
A cheaper certified streamer can show the same Netflix or BBC programme at the same resolution when the television, subscription and source support it. If your needs stop at opening a few mainstream apps, Apple TV 4K may be more polished than necessary. Its value appears when the interface, ecosystem, storage and long-term main-TV role all matter.
Why we favour the 128GB Ethernet model
The Ethernet version adds a wired network option for a fixed living-room installation and includes Thread networking alongside the larger storage allocation. Ethernet can reduce reliance on local wireless conditions, although good Wi-Fi 6 may already be sufficient in many homes. The 128GB capacity also provides ample app headroom, but it should not be confused with general USB storage: Apple TV is not designed as an open peripheral or sideloading box.
Daily-use strengths and compromises
tvOS is designed around Apple’s controlled app ecosystem. That brings consistency and simple integration, but it is a poor fit for buyers whose priority is Android-style app installation, USB accessories or extensive hardware customisation. The Siri Remote and Apple account are part of the intended experience, so households that prefer Alexa or Google services may get more natural integration elsewhere.
Picture and sound support is broad, but compatibility is end to end. Your television, receiver or soundbar, HDMI connection, streaming plan and chosen programme must all support the desired format. Buying a premium box cannot add Dolby Vision or Dolby Atmos to equipment that does not support them.

Bottom line: this is a strong premium main-TV choice for an Apple household, but it is not automatically the best value for a light or platform-neutral user.
